Age 16, Kingsley Jackson joined the WWII ranks and changed his name to Johnson. Studying radio operation, he volunteered on a suicide mission where his pilot was killed. He landed the plane safely guided by burning pyres. The following day he volunteered again. In 1945 he was awarded the Kings Cross Medal.
